Study shows cartoon characters attract kid to junk food products
CNN has posted an article detailing the effect having a cartoon character put onto product packaging has on the appeal of a product toward the younger age demographic.
The report shows the results of an experiment, where 40 children between the age of 4 and 6 were given two sets of crackers, gummies and carrots which were both identical except for the packaging which featured characters such as Shrek.
Over 50% of children thought the products with the cartoons on the packaging tasted better than the ones without, and roughly 3/4’s of the kids would choose the ones with cartoons on the packaging as a snack over the other generic package.
The article also goes on to explain how these results are worrying experts, because these cartoon characters appear primarily on junk food products. Click the image on this post to view the full article.
