Firaxis announces Civilization V

I must say, I’m pretty psyched about this one. I’ve followed this series since the beginning before I even knew how I was supposed to play it properly. I was addicted to non-stop play with Civ 4 for months on end, now Sid is about to lure me back in with the sequel!

Civilization games follow the same concept and ultimate goal of building a civilization and conquering the world through various methods, be it through diplomacy, war or cultural influence.

Civilization V will expand on the previous games with a new combat system, deeper diplomacy and improved visuals. The game is due for release sometime this Autumn.

Microsoft to release patch for 17 year old bug

Google researcher Tavis Ormandy has discovered a security flaw in Microsoft’s operating system that dates back to the days of Windows 3.1.

This security hole, which has existed in the Virtual DOS Machine since 1993, could allow an attacker to run code on the victim PC in kernel mode (even on Windows 7), so as far along the line has DOS has become now, it’s not above getting a patch after so many years.

DSx86 emulates a PC CPU, MCGA, CGA and EGA graphics, SoundBlaster system and US keyboard.
